The Princess of Wales first enchanted the world at the tender age of 19 when she became
engaged to Prince Charles. People around the world watched as she married Prince Charles
on July 29, 1981. The early years were happy ones, especially the births of her 2 sons, Prince
William and Prince Harry, now 15 and 12 respectively. But the Royal marriage was not the
fairy tale we had thought and in 1996 Princess Diana and Prince Charles were divorced.
Only in the last few weeks did Princess Diana seem to find happiness in a budding romance
with Dodi Al Fayed. Princess Diana charmed and captivated the world. She was a
humanitarian who used her celebrity status to bring new awareness to AIDS, leprosy and,
most recently, land mines. On August 31, 1997, exactly one year and 2 days after her
divorce from Prince Charles, her life was tragically ended in a senseless, horrific car
accident in a Paris tunnel while being pursued by the paparazzi.
Princess Diana will be mourned by millions of people around the world. She will be
remembered always in our hearts as a remarkable woman of beauty, charm, intelligence and
diplomacy. She touched the hearts of all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.
